In Shippuden, he is largely sidelined, which is something you will see with many side characters from part 1. One of my top favorite Naruto characters, Rock Lee, is amazing in Naruto and absolutely steals the show whenever he is on screen whether he's being comedic or dramatic. Both are great for what they are at their best, but if you fell in love with many of the characters in Naruto, you will find some of them have a much smaller role in Shippuden which can be disappointed to some. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden also have some pretty significant differences in what characters the follow, and in the themes imo. Naruto Shippuden does have some high highs as well, just also has some parts that I didn't like as much. Shippuden isn't as consistent to me, whereas in the original Naruto I think every single canon story arc is fantastic. I think I prefer Naruto to Naruto Shippuden.
